Why KLYKids?

Many people ask us why we (my husband and I) call our kids KLYKids. It was a fun name that was thought of when creating an email account for our children in 2003. We had just had our third baby. We decided to use the name KLY. K was for Kalen (who is now know as Nasiru Keita - that is another story), L is for Leilani and Y is for Yaminah.

We did not take into consideration that possibility of more growth in the family, lol. KLY eventually became KLYKids when we named a vegan cookie company after them (yes, another story too).

Well, this year we expanded our family again. Now Dikita Kamau needs to be a part of the KLY. Thankfully, he has a K in his name so he is taking on the K in Kids. I hope that he never calls us on that one.

The children love the name. No, we no longer have the cookie company. The website is still floating in cyber land. We will eventually change this blog to the old web address.

You all will learn more about the KLYKids through this blog. They are pretty fascinating.

AKWAABA (WELCOME)

Are you ready for an adventure? Get ready for an interesting journey. We are excited that you will be joining us as we explore our world of homeshooling.

I am Mama Shayla, your guide. I call myself a guide because I am not a teacher at all. Just a resource for my children. I will be posting most entries; however, Nasiru (the oldest KLYKid)will join us for some posts too.

We recently expanded our family again on March 8, 2007. Dikita Kamau "Baby Afrika" blessed us with his presence. So now we have two boys and two girls. You should see us piled up in the Honda CRV...that's a sight. We definitely have to upgrade.

I have took the month of March off to bond with the new baby. Family members and friends have stepped up to help take care of the children. They were able to continue their activities with no problem. Well, as you can clearly see, it is now October. The break is over.

Get ready to join our adventure.
